Release PeopleSoft 9.1 and PeopleTools 8.50: Effort to implement the Wow

As stated in an earlier blog post  the new PeopleTools 8.50 really gives you a WOW.
And there are a lot of WOW’s. But do they come of the box or do you have to put a  lot effort  to get them available to the user when you are upgrading from an earlier version?
Here I’ll give an overview about what Oracle says about some of these, so you can get an idea.

Ajax / Partial page refresh.
Refreshes portions of the page that change due to things like a field change.
-> Automatic behavior in Release 9.1 applications and Tools only upgrade.

Drop down menu.
Navigation similar to Windows Start menu flow.

-> Default menu in Release 9.1 applications.
-> Effort to Implement in Tools Upgrade:   Easy.

Modal Messages.
When messages are generated, the message will be displayed to the user in a separate modal window.

-> Automatic in Release 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50.

Modal prompt.  
Prompt is shown in a modal window. 

-> Automatic in Release 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50.

Modal secondary page.
Can be shown in a separate model window.
-> Very few application pages utilize this feature in Release 9.1.

Modal zoom.
Provides the ability to “popout” a grid or long field into a larger modal window.
-> Automatic behavior for grids in 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50.
-> Available for long fields in 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50 (tag in App Designer).

Scrollable grids.
New type of grid style available with 8.50 – Vertical and Horizontal Scrolling.
-> Most application grids in Release 9.1 applications DO utilize the scrollable grid.
-> Requires Customization to Implement in Tools Only upgrade, but easy.

SWAN Stylesheet.
More modern look and feel.
-> Automatic in Release 9.1 applications only.
-> Requires Configuration and Customization to utilize in Tools Only Upgrade to 8.50 (high effort).

Type Ahead / Auto Complete.
Gives the user suggestions on values in the database.

-> All character fields with prompts have type ahead enabled.

Mouse over popups.
Provides a popup window for a field that has been enabled.

-> Available in Release 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50 (low effort).

Application Class drilldown.
By right clicking.
-> Automatic behavior in Release 9.1 applications and with Tools only 8.50 upgrade.

Rich text editor.

-> Available in Release 9.1 applications and Tools Only upgrades to 8.50 (moderate effort).
