Although Larry Ellison isn’t a great performer on stage (my personal opinion!) everybody is looking forward to his keynote on OpenWorld as there always will be an announcement. This year’s announcement was Oracle VM (it has been announced three times this week). Some highlight from the presentation:
New server virtualization software and support

THE FIRST FUSION APPLICATIONS ARE COMING IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2008
As I was complaining yesterday about the lack of communication about the planning in the keynote from Ed Abbo, Larry Ellison announced that the first Fusion Applications will be available in the first half of 2008. First he was talking about the most important requests for Fusion Applications of customers (integration with existing products, measurable business benefits, available as SaaS). The first three Fusion Applications that will be available are Sales Force Automation. There was a demo on stage showing these three new applications:
Sales Prospector
Integrated with ERP for Customer Purchase Data
Integrated with 1G SFA for Opportunity Management
Sales References
Integrated with ERP for Customer Data
Integrated with 1G SFA for Sales Campaigns
Sales Tools
Presentation Library maintained via Social Network
Yes, it is still a new application but totally based on existing applications with a lot of Business Intelligence possibilities.
Watch the keynote of Larry Ellison to see the first screens of Fusion Applications. It looks very nice!

Larry Ellison’s fuse getting shorter
Within the first six months of next year, Oracle plans to trot out the first of its long-awaited Fusion applications. And if Larry Ellison, Oracle chief executive, has his way, the three Fusion applications will make their debut in the earlier part of that period. As they say in the financial world, he’s cautiously optimistic.
Oracle says sales, new products on track Oracle Corp, the world’s No. 3 software maker, said on Wednesday it is on track to meet its quarterly and long-term financial targets and that it will start shipping a new product early next year.
“Start to ship” (Dutch Article)
Chuck Rozwat, Executive Vice President Oracle Server Technologies, says Oracle starts to ship Fusion Applications in 2008. But he gets irritated when a journalist asks him when Fusion Applications is complete.
E-Business Suite
EBS R12 and Fusion
A Dutch article about the roadmap to Fusion and it says that a lot of Fusion is already available in EBS R12. That’s exactly what we say a few days ago in our first update: “…examples of sessions which will show us the already relationship between e-Business Suite and Fusion…”
EBS and Oracle VM At Oracle Open World this week, Oracle debuted Oracle VM, server virtualization software. Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 and 12 has been certified with Oracle VM and Oracle VM will be available for free download beginning Wednesday at: www.oracle.com/virtualization.
PeopleSoft
The big message of Oracle Open World, regarding PeopleSoft customers is reassurance.
On tuesday Ed Abbo, senior vice president of Oracle applications, outlined the overall strategy, both for Fusion and for the existing Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards and Siebel applications. He said Oracle is still very much committed to its Applications Unlimited program to provide support to customers running legacy systems from PeopleSoft, Siebel and JD Edwards, adding that 2008 would see the release of E-Business Suite 12.1 and PeopleSoft 9.1.
Interesting news is that since completing its acquisition of PeopleSoft in late 2004, the company has grown earnings significantly faster than the 20 percent Ellison at that time pledged to investors.
Available through the Oracle Partner Network, the following guided learning paths have been made available for PeopleSoft Enterprise:
4 Guided Learning Paths for PeopleSoft Enterprise – Sales and PreSales roles
6 Guided Learning Paths for PeopleSoft Enterprise – Implementation and Support roles
2 Guided Learning Paths for PeopleSoft Enterprise – Oracle Certified Expert role
Two interesting applications sessions the were held yesterday have been highlighted. Unfortunately, the powerpoint slides of these sessions have not been made not available yet.

Siebel
Chung Wu, (Director of Product Management, Oracle Corporation)
The key message of the presentation “Siebel Application Management – Tools, Tips and Techniques to Ensure Performance and Availability” was:
Application Management is a process.
It covers all stages of an application’s lifecycle.
Implementing the process properly, with the right tool, would increase the chance of success with application deployment.
