Finally: SiebLook
Better late than never is a famous saying and was one of the first things that came up in my mind when I first saw the Oracle Siebel CRM Desktop (released in Fix Pack for Siebel CRM). My actual first thought was: Nice! This looks great! and was immediatly followed by: “this is something we have been waiting for for years!”. I am aware of the fact that this might sound a little bit to enthousiastic. Fact is that I really mean it. And yes; Siebel CRM Desktop still has to prove itself in production. The start, however, is promising.
When referring to Siebel CRM Desktop (originally developed by invisibleCRM), Oracle mentions melting, not integration, between Microsoft Outlook (Lotus Notus will be supported later this year) and Siebel CRM. Melting because Siebel has become an (practically) unrecognized part of Microsoft Outlook, giving the user the possibility to retrieve, edit, create, delete, sync, contacts, accounts, opportunities and activities (calendar items) from Outlook with Siebel, without the user actually realizing he really is working with Siebel (while the data restrictions implemented in Siebel are enforced in SiebLook as well). In short: the CRM Desktop does not force enterprise application processes on the user, but lets the user work the way he works best. This could result in an increase of productivity on one hand and an increase of data quality on the other hand.
