What’s new in PeopleTools 8.50

During this year’s Oracle OpenWorld cool new features in the new release of PeopleTools are unveiled. This new version should become available somewhere in 2009, together with the PeopleSoft 9.1 Application versions.

Look and Feel
One of the big changes in PeopleTools 8.50 is the User Experience. If you look at this screenshot you can see that the layout is still PeopleSoft common, but Oracle’s blue has arrived. Or did the blue arrive with the takeover of PeopleSoft …

These new features are available with the Tools upgrade:

  • Partial Page Refresh
  • Modal Lookup Prompts & Error Messages
  • New Menu, Favorites, Recent Visits
  • Homepage Pagelet Drag/Drop
  • Independent Pagelet Refresh
  • Type Ahead/Auto-Complete
  • Modal Zoom Grid for existing grids

These additional features are available with PeopleSoft 9.1 Applications:

  • New Grids (sortable, drag/drop, etc.)
  • Updated Stylesheet
  • Rich Text Editor
  • Mouse-over Popups
  • IM Presence (eg. Beehive, Yahoo, etc.)

RSS Feeds

Another cool new feature is the ability to link your workflow outstanding items to a RSS feed. With this functionality you can check your worklist using a  general RSS reader, like Outlook.

You can even use a web browser to handle your workflow items.

The integration with Excel via Hyperion Essbase will be very interesting for Financial users. This will not replace PeopleSoft nVision but it’s a great new piece of functionality.

PeopleTools 8.50 is backwards compatible with PeopleSoft applications:

  • PeopleSoft EPM 8.8
  • PeopleSoft HCM 9.0
  • PeopleSoft FMS 8.8
  • PeopleSoft SCM 8.8
  • PeopleSoft CRM 8.9

There are much more enhancements coming with PeopleTools 8.50 but these first insights I did want to share with you.

Thanks for the post.

I have a quick question hoping someone can help answer:
Is the new PT 8.50 compatible with the Supply Chain Module on 8.8

You say in the blog that Peopletools 8.50 “should become available somewhere in 2009″. We’re starting an upgrade project at my company and I’m wondering if you think that Peopletools 8.50 could be released by May of 2009? I would hate to miss out on these great changes. Because I know that it we don’t get it in for the Upgrade we won’t get it for a couple of years.
