Fusion
by Peter Slager

My expectations were high this year on the Fusion Applications announcement. It was pretty quiet and disappointing …….

Some articles stated that the first customer demo’s have been given. Some newsflashes tell us that Fusion Applications is delayed until next year, or even 2010. Where Larry Ellison last year announced the first Fusion Apps modules to be delivered mid 2008, he didn’t lie. Oracle announced the Oracle Sales Predictor module in June. The rumors are that early adopters program will start early next year. Will Ellison announce Fusion Applications next year?

PeopleSoft
by Tom Altena

Is strange to notice that there is so few information available of the sessions and presentations which are held at OpenWorld 2008. Every day it was a struggle to find some new relevant information which had been announce on OpenWorld concerning PeopleSoft. I hoop that the DVD’s of OpenWorld will supply me with more information.

Although I could not find a lot new information on PeopleSoft, I saw a lot of links and stories of Fusion Apps (not that I read them all). But it’s nice to notice that, although Fusion apps will be delivered later than expected ( probably around 2010),  some  progress is being made in developing it.

Technical
Using STAX with PeopleCode
At Oracle Openworld 2008 the Integration Broker deep dive session went through an example of how to segment a large document file using the STAX api.
A brief description of the problem and solution is here: Download file

Siebel
by Rick van Haasteren

Oracle keeps investing in separate Siebel teams (Dutch)
http://www.datanews.be/nl/news/90-9-20301/oracle–een-slecht-kwartaal-hoeft-niet-symptomatisch-te-zijn.html
Despite the economic downturn, Oracle manages to attain new Siebel customers. Also, Oracle confirmed that the Siebel development team will still remain quite independent. Oracle claims that this proves their commitment to investing in the solutions customers are using right now. Only in the long term, this will switch to Fusion (which we heard very little off).

Siebel on OpenWorld
The past few days, we have seen only a few announcements related to Siebel, focusing on Social CRM and the iPod apps. Not the most spectacular new, one might say. It would have been nice to get more info on the Siebel 8.1 release, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer for that.

Oracle has used OpenWorld to show Siebel customer success stories. Instead of focusing on new releases, Oracle has paid more attention to successful implementation and getting more value from Siebel.

It was nice to see how Oracle uses social and web 2.0 buzz-words with regards to Siebel, but let’s hope next year will show us some more exciting news.
